Animal Alphabet: Z is for Zebra Swallowtail

Last week I promised a terrifying chimera for the final week of the Animal Alphabet.

Here it is!

Yes, Z is for the zebra swallowtail butterfly, as the title of this post indicates.

Maybe you don't think it is terrifying (or chimerical). Clearly, if you think that way, you don't know how these things are made. Here is a glimpse of that unholy alchemy. Click to see it more clearly.

Rumor has it that another alphabet is about to begin, full of imaginary (rather than authentic) creatures. I am consulting my sources and limbering my digits.

That's the prettiest terrifying chimera I ever did see.

Kaiser, take a bow. You have done HEROIC work to march this alphabet across half a year, without fail, and I know what a busy year it has been for you. Not only have you managed a whole slew of delightful drawings, showing off your drawing and coloring chops, but you have presented them with your characteristic humor, learning, and charm. You may take a bow, but, sir, I bow to you!

Oh, what a delightful chimera! They are among the most frequent visitors to my garden, I'm happy to say, & I confront them bravely-- but from now on I'm sure I'll always be thinking of your alchemical rebus!!

I really hope those rumors are true-- can't wait to see what you do with mythical chimeras.

I'm not planning to do anything mythical in the next alphabet, Leah. But I am planning to participate -- and in fact I am already compiling a list of creatures.

I think Ben wants to have a short hiatus before the next alphabet starts. I'm hoping that will give me enough time to draw another little Halloween minicomic like the ones I made last year.
